GarageBand for iOS is one of the first Apple apps to add support for Schoolwork, giving teachers the ability to create GarageBand assignments and activities.

The version 2.3.4 update also allows you to view note labels on any Touch Instrument’s music keyboard.

Schoolwork, unveiled alongside the new 9.7-inch iPad this spring and made available late last month, makes it easier than ever for teachers and students to collaborate on school assignments.

One of the things that makes Schoolwork so powerful is that it allows teachers to create assignments and activities inside other apps, so that students can quickly get stuck into their work. GarageBand is one of the first apps to support this functionality.

GarageBand is fit for the classroom

GarageBand’s latest update gives teachers the ability to create Handouts and app activities that they can distribute to their class, while students can now submit completed assignments as GarageBand projects.

While the work is underway, teachers will be able to monitor student progress through the Schoolwork app, and collaborate with those who might need some assistance.

This update also gives all GarageBand users the ability to view note labels on any Touch Instrument’s music keyboard, and promises stability improvements and bug fixes.

New Update: June 2017

I found the new ‘Modern’ display system to be very off-putting. It seems they’ve tried to recreate the harshness of an Ableton so the £3.99 application is percieved as professional. it annoys me, but i’m sure i’ll get used to it. only the other hand, i’ve found the app has stopped crashing as frequently as it used to. and the update did add more Apple loops and Drum presets for the CHEATERS who use those kinds of features.

Simple & Wonderful

Love this app It’s very easy to use making great for all abilities. I also use Ableton for more complex stuff, however I have found find this easy to use with other musicians who dont have ableton but use various other platforms to bounce ideas back and forth with one another.

After rocky start, GB10 has matured very well

I held off updating to GarageBand beyond v6 because its complete FCPX-style overhaul had sacrificed a lot of crucial functionality.
But having had problems with v6 on Mojave, I decided to try the new one out, and it's great! It has everything GB6 had, and then a lot more.
It's worth copying over all your existing Jam Pack stuff though, as my older version of MainStage won't work on Mojave and I would not update if I couldn't bring all my previously purchased instrument sets.
I'm still getting used to the different GUI, but overall, this is a very worthwhile application.
